Mens Prems Finish 2013 on a High!

Our Mens Premier team have recovered from the heartache of missing out on a spot in this year’s semis by defeating Goonellabah in their last game this season. It was no easy feat though – Villa taking the win by just one goal.

Our Mens Reserves team did well also this year finishing second on the ladder. They start their finals bid this Friday at home to Byron at 7:30PM on CP1. Well done to both teams for a great 2013 season!

Gr13 Angels - Team of the Week

Our Gr13 girls team has won the NNSWF Team of the Week competition. This team has now gone two seasons undefeated and plays in a semi final this Friday night. Scoring over 100 goals this season and winning every game the girls ended the regular season as pointscore champions once again. However winning is not everything as you can read below.

2013 Trivia Night a Big Success!

We hope all that attended our Villa trivia night enjoyed themselves. Thank you to all that were there and to those that donated prizes, some $6000 worth. And a big thank you to all the ladies that worked together, making it a huge success.

With close score lines between a number of tables and many draws done there was one name that seemed to be repeated throughout the night. And the winner is........... Wendy Priddle.

13 Villa Teams into Finals

With the last of the regular season matches now over we move into the finals series. Congratulations to all teams who have had an enjoyable year of football in 2013 and a huge thank you to all our volunteers for another fabulous year.

We have 2 teams who ended the season as pointscore champions (Gr13 Girls Angels and Gr14 Boys Wizards) and 13 teams who have made it through to the finals.

Below is the schedule for this weekend so if you're not playing why not go down and support our Villa teams on the side lines. Good luck to all!

Georgia in Australian School Girls Team!

For a second year in a row Villa FC's Georgia Keen has made it into the Australian School Girls team which will tour Europe early next year.

Congratulations to Georgia and good luck! Read the article in the Northern Star here.

Georgia in Cambodia

Villa FC player Georgia Keen traveled to Cambodia in July with CUFA, an organisation that helps lift communities out of poverty.

CUFA uses football as a vehicle for the education and self improvement of children in poverty and so Georgia was there to support this initiative. Well done to Georgia and her family on embarking on such a worthwhile trip. See the video below to see some of the things Georgia got up to on the trip and visit www.cufa.com.au to learn more about CUFA.

2013 Carnival - A Big Day!

Our annual Junior Carnival was held last Sunday and it was our biggest for many years. With nearly 100 teams registered every field had to be utilised.

It was a fantastic team effort from the club with everyone working together to ensure that this years carnival was a huge success. We had a lot of positive feedback during and after the day that all had a great time. Well done and a big thank you to all volunteers and teams who helped put together such a wonderful day for all.

Gr6 Barracudas - In the Mud!

Last week the Gr6 Barracudas traveled to Skennars Head fields for their fixture. It was yet another wet day and the kids embraced the fact that they were allowed to get dirty and run around in the rain!

The Barracudas are Baxter, Jordan, Haylen, Lewis, Taj and Ari - coached by Angie West.

Gr15 Allstars - First use of CP2 Shelters!

In the holidays the Gr15 Girls Allstars had a practice match and social event at CP. The spectators made good use of the new shelters - which is believed to be the first use of the shelters.

New CP2 Shelters - Thank You!

We have recently built and installed new shelters on CP2. The shelters were kindly donated by Alstonville Plumbing & Gasfitting (ph 6628 5626).

The weather turned out to be perfect for the week leading up and on Saturday for the working bee when the concrete was poured. A huge thank you to all those who could help, and particularly to the following:

- Paul Jarrett, our club president (who designed and planned everything)
- Matt Priddle (who worked tirelessly all week)
- Garry Kunz (who helped with the grass excavating)
- Dave Jobson (who donated use of a digger and helped with concreting & roofing).
- and Holcim Concrete for donating the concrete (ph 13 11 88)

Another Wash Out!

Last weekend was yet another wet one with most games postponed or cancelled. At least our small sided teams played at home and the weather held off for the morning. However spare a thought for some teams who have only played 4 games so far this season.

Field closures can get complicated with a lot of aspects to consider, so even though a Saturday morning might be sunny the fields might still be too wet to play on or bad weather might be forecast or there might be some other consideration.

Villa FC (and all clubs) have to look after the fields that we lease. We try our best to keep everyone up to date with field closures and we have a wet weather procedure that we ask teams to follow (see here.).

Let's hope the second half of the season sees more games played.

Villa FC Wins NNSWF Playmaker Award

The club was recently nominated for the Northern NSW Football Playmaker award and won. A thoughtful parent made the following submission ...

Nickel Energy Super Skills - A Big Success!

This term we ran the first of our Nickel Energy Super Skills sessions at the Alstonville Leisure Centre. The program is for Gr7-12 Villa players with the aim of providing some extra skills training and development for our players.

We will be running the program next term also so make sure you get in quick to register once details are available (check the website in the next week or two).

A big thanks to Nickel Energy for subsidising the program.

Volunteers Needed!

We are currently in need of more club volunteers in various areas. Some of may have already been handed on of these feedback forms. If not you should soon receive one.

Please fill out the form and hand in to the canteen if you can spare a small amount of time each month to help with the running of the club or contact a committee member.

We are particularly looking for some regular canteen helpers and also parents of small sided teams to help with our Junior Carnival. Club volunteers find it a very rewarding and fun experience not to mention providing such a great community service, so why not get involved now!

Silent Saturday/Sunday - Ref Appreciation Week

This week is referee appreciation week. Everyone is asked to show special appreciation to referees during and after games.

Also, FFNC has asked that all games be conducted in silence from the sidelines with no comment or noise from coaches or spectators and to let players play on their own. See the FFNC website for full details.

Gr13 Scorpions - FFNC Team of the Week

Congratulations to the Gr13 Scorpions who were the Newcastle Permanent FFNC Team of the Week this week. They received a photo and prize for their efforts aswell as being posted on the FFNC website.

Any junior team can nominate for this. See the link down the right of the page. Good luck!

Crawford Park sees RED&BLACK!

What a great day for Villa FC, a day where all of our teams playing at CP were triumphant. Eight wins from eight games.

Results were: 16/1st 4-0, 15/2nd 4-2, 12/1st 9-0, 14/1st wizards 4-0, premier reserves 8-0, men's 4th 3-0, premier men 6-1 and men's 2nd 3-2. Well done to all!

Overall, for and against totaled VILLA 41 - AWAY 5. What an achievement, go RED&BLACK!

2013 Phone Books - Finished!

A huge thank you to all those who helped us deliver phone books last weekend and to John Thomson from AnJon Electrical who allowed us to store the books at his premises. And also to Jason Hughes who transported the books there.

It was a slow start on Saturday but on Sunday we had a lot of helpers who got the bulk of the deliveries finished. Others also finished off deliveries to businesses during the week.

This was a great combined effort to raise funds towards our new shelters (which will come in handy if this weather continues). So now we are finished for 2013 and we don't need any more help with this. Thanks again to everyone who could help!

Second Hand Boots - Going OS?

We still have many pairs of second hand boots for sale on consignment. But if they don't sell by 15 June, we are going to send them all overseas so they can be used by kids who don't have any boots.

So if anyone who has boots for sale and wants them back please collect them from the canteen before 15th June.
