Men’s 6th Grade Hanging Tough

They say time goes slowly up Byron way...well at Suffolk Park you’d never get a ‘soft yoker’ after boiling an egg for 3 minutes, as our 6th Grade Men’s team so cruelly found out on the weekend. Deprived of a stirring victory, against the table topping Suffolk Park, with the last kick of the game.

The boys arrived at Suffolk knowing they were under-manned (due to a Saturday wedding), looking a bit like ‘Dad’s Army’ with ankle and knee braces everywhere, limps, moans, but plenty of experience.

Most of us were silently thinking we were here for damage limitation against a side that had already scored 24 and leaked only 5. One Suffolk supporter even joked with us about our age as three teenagers hopped out of his car and started warming up.

Historic Mens Premier Team Win

Our mens premier team registered its first ever away win against Rovers on the weekend. This crucial win put the team up into 4th position - our highest ever position. Well done boys and keep up the good work.

You can see the NBN News video about the win here.

Our girls and womens teams wore pink socks on the day and we decorated our club houses. The jumping castle at GW was also a hit with the kids. See more photos below.

Villa OPEN B Anzac Cup Victory!

On Friday afternoon our OPEN B mens team played in their second Anzac Cup final in as many years, this time looking for victory.

It was quite a game with the both teams unable to be separated at 3-3 after extra time. With some brilliant goal keeping Villa prevailed 7-6 in the penalty shoot out to bring home the trophy.

It has been quite a drought for Villa mens teams so it was great to finally bring home some silverware.

And there was quite a celebration that night also. Well done and congratulations to our Villa men!

Women Premiers Brave in Defeat

Last Thursday night our Women's Premier team played in the Callan McMillan final at Oakes Oval. While our team led 3-1 at one stage, Bangalow came back to level at 3-3 at the end of extra time and then went on to win the game in a penalty shoot out. Congratulations to Bangalow!

Our girls played very well against a talented opposition and should be proud of their effort, along with coach Rob Sheehan and manager Andrew Iliffe. We now look forward to their efforts in the regular season. Go Villa!

Two Villa Teams in Pre-Season Comp Finals

Our Womens Premier team has once again made it to the Callan-McMillan Shield OPEN A grand final. This continues the string of success that this team has had in recent years and the club is very proud of them. The game will be played at Oakes Oval at 8pm on Thursday 24 April.

Our Mens 4th division team has also made it to the Anzac Cup OPEN B grand final. They will play at Oakes Oval at 2PM on Friday 25 April.

6th Division Senior Men's

Villa's 6th Division Senior Men are Sitting at the top of the table after round 2...

The first round of the season saw Villa host Lismore Workers Club on GW3, This was the first workout for the new box goals and there were some keen Villa men wanting to be the first to put one in the back of the net.

The huge crowd didn't have to wait long as Craig Parker ,aka "The Parkernator" was brought down in the penalty box and Matt "The Golden Snitch" Potter stepped up to score the first goal in the box nets. This was closely followed by Craig scoring the first goal from open play. The game ended with a final score of 5-1 to Villa. First game and a first win. and a Hat-Trick to Matt Potter, A Thank you also goes out to Brock Westgate and Josh Moore-Evans who put on a great display of "Young Fitness"  when they played up into Senior Men's

The second round saw Villa men travel to Chickiba to play against Tintenbar, A lot of the Villa men were there early to support and cheer on the Villa Women's 4th Division Team in their first game of the season.

Villa came out strong and it wasn't long before the first goal was scored By "Hendo" , followed by a goal from Simon and then a goal from the Radar Rojo himself... Villa went into half time 3-0 up and it could have easily been 4 or 5.

Tintenbar came out a lot quicker in the second half and they had a couple of good attempts on goal but the Villa defence held strong and Villa held onto the lead and the game finished with a 3-0 win.

The Season has started well and "Touching as much wood as I can find"... all the Men are keen to continue the way we started.

Pommy Dave.
